According to the Stress in America™ 2023 survey conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of APA, adults aged 35 to 44 reported a significant increase in chronic health conditions and mental health diagnoses since the pandemic.

In 2023, 58% of this age group reported chronic health conditions, compared to 48% in 2019. Similarly, 45% reported a mental illness in 2023, up from 31% in 2019. While adults aged 18 to 34 still reported the highest rate of mental illnesses at 50% in 2023, those aged 35 to 44 highlighted financial concerns and economic factors as significant stressors, with 77% citing money and 74% citing the economy as stress-inducing factors compared to 2019.

In the United States, suicide ranks as the second leading cause of death among individuals aged 10-24 and the 12th leading cause overall. Shockingly, 46% of individuals who die by suicide had a diagnosed mental health condition, and 90% may have experienced related symptoms, according to psychological autopsies.

Dr. Gail K. James

PhD, CAIMHP, CAGCS, CTP, ABA

Dr. Gail James, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, a Master’s in Biblical Studies, and a Ph.D. in Christian Counseling, possesses expertise spanning Trauma, Mental Health, Substance Abuse Counseling, and Family Therapy.

As a Licensed Clinical Christian Therapist and Motivational Speaker, she actively contributes to organizations like Bridges of America, Gateway Community Services, and South Rehabilitation Center.

Dr. James has been recognized by AACT and ACPE as a licensed Professional Therapist and is a published author with over two decades of experience in psychology, mental health, developmental disabilities, and occupational therapy.

She is an extraordinary business woman with keen entrepreneurial acumen and has developed a multi-faceted enterprise to help people suffering from mental health, childhood sexual abuse, and domestic violence, along with programs to provide home health care.
